Buffalo Students Left Waiting for Buses
Buffalo School's Chief Financial and Operating Officer Gary Crosby briefed members of the school board on the busing issue Tuesday night.
He says the service has deteriorated since First Student took over Laidlaw, which was the district's bus company. This year, the school official says buses are running late in large numbers and kids are being forced to wait at the corner.
Crosby says First Student proposed hiring bus aides who want to be drivers and has been using mechanics to drive its buses.
"Our standards are very high and First Student is not meeting them," Crosby said.
First Student has told Crosby the company is looking to bring drivers in from as far as California to get buses running on time, something he isn't sure is a good idea since they wouldn't know the city and wouldn't know how to drive in winter. © Copyright 2009, wned
