Effort to Clean Buffalo River Moves Forward
The group, Buffalo-Niagara Riverkeeper, Honeywell Corporation, and
the U-S Environmental Protection Agency have signed a $3-million agreement to complete a feasibility study assessing contamiinated sediments in the river.
"A river needs clean, healthy sediments to form the base of its food chain," said Julie Barrett-O'Neill, Executive Director of the group, Buffalo Riverkeeper.
Barett-O'Neill told reporters the Buffalo River will never again be pristine, but will be restored to a point where it can be made safe enough to enjoy.
The hope is to begin Buffalo River sediment clean-up in 2010.
