School Board to Consider Closing 5 Schools
The Buffalo School Board will review the plan at its November 12th meeting.
The closings would cut 26 staff positions, displace 2,000 students and save the district an estimated $3-million.
The projected closures would effect Poplar Academy, Academy School 53, Montessori School 78, the Drew Science Magnet-Zoo site and Days Park Bilingual Early Childhood Center.
The affected students would be transferred to other school sites.
School officials estimates that even if the schools close, there will still be 1,500 excess seats throughout the district because of declining enrollments. © Copyright 2009, wned
