Community Leaders Target Neighborhood Crime
Three separate shooting incidents in the past week have resulted in one death and four injuries. All of the victims were between the ages of 16 and 20.
Police believe the violence may be gang-related. Commissioner McCarhy Gipson is asking anyone with information to come forward.
"We are on the verge of losing a generation of young people. These are not strangers, these are our children. These are our children that are victims, these are our children that are the perpetrators of these crimes," Gipson said.
Commissioner Gipson, Mayor Brown and others spent the evening canvassing the neighborhood where much of the violence has occured, distributing fliers and reminding residents of the city's upcoming gun buyback on September 27th.
The mayor says one of the city's surveillance cameras was able to capture an image of one of the shooters.
"We have information that will lead us to you. We have pictures of you on this video camera...so don't think that you will get away with it," Brown said.
