City to Hold Gun Buy-Back BUFFALO (wned) - This year's gun buy-back will be held on September 27 and is pegged to the faith-based community, long a key element in anti-violence efforts on city streets.

The mayor announced the program in the parking lot of Saint John Baptist Church, with many clergy members flanking him along with the family of 16-year-old Matthew Elliott who was killed July 5.

Last year, 878-guns were turned in and exchanged for pre-paid cash cards. Officials hope to collect even more weapons this year.

Mayor Brown says there is family pressure to get rid of guns.

"We saw mothers, we saw grandmothers...bringing sawed-off shotguns, .45's, automatic weapons into this gun buy-back. We know these weapons did not belong to these women," Brown said.

The program will use seven-churches across the city to collect the weapons.

Officials say the guns will be accepted with no questions asked.
