Powers Remains on November Ballot
That presents a potential ballot threat to winning Democratic candidate Alice Kryzan in the struggle to fill the congressional seat being vacated by Tom Reynolds.
The widespread 26th Congressional district already leans heavily Republican, making each vote a matter of consequence for Kryzan's campaign.
New York State election law makes it unlikely that Powers' name could be removed from the ballot. Powers could suspend his campaign and offer his support to the Democratic nominee
"We're going to wait for John to make a decision. We're confident Jon is going to do the right thing," said Working Families Executive Committee member Phil Rumore.
"There are important issues that separate him from the Republican candidate, so I think he'll do the right thing and endorse Miss Kryzan."
