U-B Increases Security in Wake of Attacks
(2008-09-11)
(wned) - Three acts of violence on and near the University at Buffalo's South Campus
on Main Street in the space of a couple of weeks has "heightened" the concern of U-B officials.

"Because of what's happened recently and our concern about it, we've doubled the security patrols that our police force has at night on the South Campus," said University President John Simpson.

Simpson said U-B is in the midst of a $5.3 million security upgrade on the Main Street campus.

Students are also being reminded about safety measures they can take for themselves.

"The best advice is always the common one, walk with a friend, keep an eye on your possessions, trust your gut," said Student Affairs Vice President Dennis Black.

The university has also purchased three-surveillance cameras for the Buffalo Police Department to be installed in problem areas in University Heights.
