Edwards Cancels University of Buffalo Event BUFFALO, NY (wned) - Former presidential hopeful John Edwards has canceled his participation in a University of Buffalo event at which he was expected to debate Republican strategist Karl Rove.

Edwards has taken a low profile since he revealed that he engaged in an affair during his most recent unsuccessful presidential campaign. His wife, Elizabeth, earned national admiration as she continued working for her husband's election while battling a recurrence of cancer.

In a statement released to the University at Buffalo, Edwards said that he will have no speaking engagements until after the November Presidential election.

University officials say they are scrambling to replace Edwards with another nationally known Democrat for the September 26th debate.
