(wned) - Police in Buffalo and Cheektowaga will now be working more closely together fighting crime along their shared border.

Local officials and neighborhood leaders were on hand Wednesday for the installation of a new surveillance camera at the corner of Walden and Poplar Avenues.

Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown says the new camera will be integrated into the city's suveillance monitoring system.

"We will be sharing any information, any data on a real time basis with the Town of Cheektowaga so that we can continue to build on our joint policing efforts," Brown said.

Neighborhood home owner Gwendolyn Cruz-Hunt says she's already seen the difference one camera makes.

"You used to find a gang of young men that were on the corner...but now when I come through this way you don't see that," she said.

Cruz-Hunt says she's glad for the camera because she wants a safe neighborhood for her children.

Brown says by the end of the year, the city's surviellance network will include one-hundred cameras.

Cheektowaga Supervisor Mary Holtz says the camera at Walden and Poplar is the first step in making the neighborhood more secure. Holtz says the Town is preparing a master plan for redeveloping the Pine Ridge neighborhood.
