Schumer calls Licenses for Illegals a State Issue BUFFALO (wned) - U.S. Senator Charles Schumer refused to comment on Governor Spitzer's plan to issue drivers licenses to illegal aliens.

Schumer says it's a state issue.

Schumer did comment on a proposal to issue enhanced, forgery-proof driver's license that tighten security and allow Americans and Canadians easy access between the two countries.

"We had great progress with Governor Spitzer and Secretary Chertoff on moving over to the new type of driver's license," said Schumer.

Schumer says so far, nothing has been decided.
