President Signs Aviation Bill into Law BUFFALO (wned) -

Aviation safety legislation stemming from the deadly crash of Continental Connection Flight 3407 is now law.

The House approved the bill late Thursday and the Senate passed it Friday.

The legislation became offical once President Obama placed his signature on the bill.

The legislation rose from the ashes of Flight 3407, which crashed in Clarence Center in February 2009, killing 50 people. The crash was blamed primarily on pilot error due to inadequate training.

The new saftey standards boost required flight training time for commercial pilots from 250 hours to 1,500 hours.

The House of Representatives passed the bill just before midnight Thursday. The Senate passed it around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

The victims' families have made dozens of trips to Washington in the last year-and-a-half, lobbying lawmakers to enact tougher safety standards for the airline industry.
