CBS News, Buffalo Police Offer Lesson in Digital Security
The network randomly purchased digital copiers from a New Jersey firm and reviewed the machines' hard drives.
Arrest reports and a list of wanted sex offenders remained on the copiers once used by Buffalo police.
The report showed that one private firm failed to remove employee lists and social security numbers before disposing of its digital copier.
CBS has returned the copiers to the city of Buffalo. Officials plan to examine the hard drives before making further comment.
