Poll: Paterson Faces Tough Road Toward Election
in the coming weeks and months if he is to have any chance of being elected in 2010.
A Siena Research Institute survey of 800 registered voters last week shows Paterson trailing Attorney General Andrew Cuomo by nearly 60 points in a potential Democratic primary.
The poll shows Paterson trailing potential GOP candidate Rudy Giuliani by more than 20 points in a hypothetical matchup and it shows Paterson trailing former GOP Congressman Rick Lazio, an announced gubernatorial candidate, by about 3 points.
"You never say never in politics. Stranger things have happened, but not many. The governor's numbers have been at these near-record low numbers ten months now. He really has his work cut out for him to try and turn it around," said SRI spokesman Steve Greenberg.
Pollster Steve Greenberg said new findings do show a slight improvement in the gopvernor's "favorability" rating. He indicated it is too early to say whether Paterson's recent television ads will have any positive impact.
