ALBANY (wned) - In an interview with WNED News, New York Governor David Paterson disputes implications that President Obama wants the governor to bow out of the 2010 gubernatorial race.

Governor Paterson has been dealing with the story since a weekend New York Times article.

In Wednesday's interview with WNED News Director Jim Ranney, Paterson confirmed that the White House is "worried" about his struggles and those of New York State. But he reaffirmed his plans to continue his ongoing election campaign.

Governor Paterson says the timing of the story is "unfortunate" since it's taking attention away from a $3 billion state budget deficit that must be closed during the current fiscal year.
