Hoyt Calls on Paterson to Push School Reform BUFFALO (wned) - Buffalo Assemblyman Sam Hoyt fears the state will miss out on millions of federal stimulus dollars for education.

As states maneuver for the funding, they first must comply with new federal guidelines.

"Currently, New York State, in my interpretation, would be prohibited from receiving any of this money because of a couple of provisions in state law," Hoyt said. "Other states are moving to amend their laws so that they qualify for this funding and New York State needs to do the same."

Among those provisions, according to Hoyt, are the state's cap on its total number of charter schools and a teacher evaluation system which does not use student test scores, a reality which Hoyt calls "ludicrous."

"I'm calling on Governor Paterson to include in the special session a school reform agenda," Hoyt told WNED News.
