Audit Questions Action of Former Niagara Co. Treasurer
Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli's audit accuses Broderick of using his position as public administrator of estates to benefit friends and family. DiNapoli's office reviewed more than a dozen estates handled by Broderick and found he sold assets at prices below value and failed to obtain professional appraisals.
In one case, Broderick sold the contents of a house for $270 in an estate valued at more than $450,000. DiNapoli also cites an example of a potentially valuable automobile and two other cars sold under Broderick's direction to a sheriff's deputy friend for a total of $2,000.
In a written response, Broderick says he disagrees with the findings, and says there is no evidence that any deceased individual's assets were not properly accounted for.
DiNapoli has referred his findings to the niagara county district attorney's office to determine if any laws were broken. © Copyright 2012, wned
