Author Ha Jin Offers Perspective on Cultural Revolution
Hailed by critics for its look at the Cultural Revolution through the eyes of a Chinese soldier, "Waiting" was awarded the National Book Award and the PEN/Faulkner Award.
Born in China, Jin was in the United States pursuing his Ph.D. at the time of the 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre in Beijing. The incident motivated his permanent move to the U.S. and influenced his award-winning work.
In a recent visit to the area, Ha Jin offered his thoughts to WNED's Mike Desmond.
