Police Warn Worshippers of Church Thefts
"There was actually four different churches involved and four different victims. Two were downdown churches and two were in the North Buffalo area," says Assistant Chief of Detectives Dennis Richards.
Richards says in some instances the entire purse was stolen. In other cases, contents of the purse were removed.
The investigation continues. In the meantime, Chief Richards advises church-goers not to leave their purses or any items of value unattended.
Anyone with information on the thefts is asked to call the police confidential tipline at 847-2255.

Buffalo Police are alerting the church-going public in the wake of incidents last weekend where a woman, described as disheveled-looking and driving a grey Ford Taurus, entered churches and rifled thru purses left in pews by women going to communion. "There was actually four different churches involved and four different victims. Two were downdown churches and two were in the North Buffalo area," says Assistant Chief of Detectives Dennis Richards.
