New Era to Close U-S Plants
The supplier to Major League Baseball says it will shut down its facility in Jackson, Alabama by February. The plant employs about 300 people.
Spokesman Paul Gallagher says a decision on which of the other two plants will go...either a second plant in Alabama, or it's facility in Derby...will come after discussions with the workers' union. There are 334 people employed in Derby.
The second plant will be closed in the second quarter of 2010, along with a distribution center in Mobile, Ala., which has 70 workers.
Gallagher says there hasn't been enough consumer demand during the recession to keep three U.S. plants going.
