Riverside High Closes as Students Test for Swine Flu
The school will be closed Friday and Monday while the situation is studied.
It is not clear if this is swine flu since tests will not be completed until over the weekend on three students with the symptoms who are getting rush testing from the Erie County Health Department.
There are some diagnosed swine flu cases in city schools. Superintendent Dr. James Williams says there are at least 19 Riverside students with the symptoms.
The superintendent is pleading with parents to keep sick kids home.
"Students who are sick should stay home. If their parents send them to school, we will send them back home immediately and we're asking parents to keep their child home at least 24 hours until they feel they are symptom-free," said Williams
Williams says the school will be thoroughly cleaned while the buildings are closed.
