Paterson, addressing the media for the first time since rumors began circulating that he might resign over a scandalous news story that was to appear in the New York Times.
The New York Senate has voted to immediately expel Senator Hiram Monserrate. The Queens Democrat was convicted of a misdemeanor assault of his girlfriend last year.
The Senate voted 53-8 on Tuesday night to oust Monserrate. "We will be challenging this in court," said Monserrate. "It's clear here that the rights of the voters of 13th Senatorial District were trampled upon. And we will fight for them." He was convicted of dragging his girlfriend through his apartment.
The State Senate has approved a resolution calling on President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder to move the trials of those linked to the September 11 attacks out of Manhattan and back to a military tribunal. Opponents say holding the trials in New York is dangerous and would put lives at risk.
