CLASSICAL
A-Yes! Use this URL http://www.publicbroadcasting.net/wned/ppr/index.shtml and then click on Launch WNED FM Stream.
Q-Can you boost the Classical 94.5 broadcast signal to better reach into the Toronto area?
A-Unfortunately, we are bound by FCC rules and border agreements to our current broadcast capabilities (power and location).
Q-How can I make a donation to Classical 94.5 WNED? Will I be able to deduct the donation for tax purposes?
A-You can make a donation by going here:
http://www.wned.org/Membership/pledge_now.asp
You should contact your tax advisor to get information about deducting donations to a public radio station in the United States.
Q-I can get Classical 94.5 on my car radio but not always in my home, what can I do?
A-The fact that you are able to receive WNED in your car and at least marginally at home is a good sign – you probably just need to increase your antenna situation to pull us in more reliably. If you are using a home stereo receiver (or any receiver) with an antenna jack, connection to a rooftop TV antenna is best, but an old-fashioned "rabbit ears" indoor antenna might do the trick. There are also smaller amplified FM antennas available at many electronics stores that may help.
Q-Why does my reception quality of Classical 94.5 sometimes change?
A-There are environmental influences on radio reception – in your case, the atmospheric conditions over Lake Ontario are the biggest factor. Without increasing your system's ability to pull in more signal with an improved antenna, you may lose WNED as the seasons change. All this is, of course, assuming you don't already have a reasonable antenna. If you do, there probably isn't much you can do.
Q-Could I have some advice on how to receive your transmissions in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario?
A-Kitchener is just outside WNED's usable coverage area. Unfortunately, we are bound by FCC rules and border agreements to our current power and location. There is the possibility that you might be able to receive WNED with an outdoor roof or tower mounted TV antenna pointed south, but there are no guarantees. A good indication is if you can receive WNED clearly (and consistently) in your car in your driveway, a roof antenna will probably do the trick.WNED is also rebroadcast on Cogeco cable at 97.9 MHz in the Hamilton area, so if your cable provider in Kitchener happens to be Cogeco, this may be an option for you.
Q—What if the antenna solution does not work?
A—If you have exhausted the over-the-air option for reception of WNED-FM, You may want to look into an Internet Radio Appliance. It is essentially a stand-alone wireless network device that looks and behaves like a radio but connects wirelessly to a home wireless network or WiFi and receives Internet radio stations anywhere in your home within range of your home wireless network. Of course, this assumes that you have a wireless network in your home. There are many to choose from – here's a link to the Internet Radio page at Amazon.com:www.amazon.com/s/ie=UTF8&keywords=internet+radios&tag=googhydr20&index=aps&hvadid=126093241&ref=pd_sl_2nyf22qyy5_b
Q-I'm unable to open your stream with my new Mac. Do you have any suggestions?
A-Our current streams are in Windows Media Player format, and Microsoft no longer makes a WMP version for Mac. Older versions may not have the correct codec installed, and running WMP in Windows emulation software seems to be troublesome at best. To alleviate this problem, we are in the process of updating our hardware in order to provide additional streams in MP3 format for Mac users. When these new MP3 streams are available, links will be provided on our website, in addition to the current Windows Media Player links.
Q-What can I do if I have more questions?
A-You can contact our Program Director, Gabe DiMaio by calling (1)716-845-7000.
