At the very heart of Grits & Soul is the songwriting collaboration of Southern song crafters, Anna Kline and John Looney. Their sound is a fusion of down-to-earth Americana steeped in lonesome mountain bluegrass and drenched in Memphis soul. Whether performing as an acoustic duo or a full band, the Grits & Soul sound haunts you. Anna and John have a dynamic musical chemistry onstage and off, that can’t help but be felt through their heartfelt original songs & intricate harmonies.

Anna’s voice as a songwriter crafts lyrics full of intimacy, wit and frankness as only a Southern writer can do. Her powerhouse voice coupled with a true gift for lyrical storytelling stops chatter in noisy venues and bars. John’s ear for arranging songs creates a genre-bending acoustic listening experience as his multi-faceted performances on guitar and mandolin wow crowds. The common thread Anna and John share – a love for roots, blues, and bluegrass – lends their homegrown Southern sound a palpable energy and authenticity.
