This March 21st event is built upon poetry created around the theme of HOURS. The program should not run much longer than 1 hour and fifteen minutes.
About the Hours project Hours is a community of artists and writers contemplating a complex yet far-reaching idea. This has made for a fascinating group exhibit featuring breadth of concept and vitality of work currently on display at the Kalamazoo Book Arts Center through March 28th.
Sydnee Peters was awarded the Kalamazoo Artistic Development Initiative (KADI) grant through The Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo (spring ’12) to cover the breadth of the HOURS project. Her objective was to assemble artists and writers around the theme of Hours, a notion borrowed from The Book of Hours, a medieval monastic tradition of meditation and prayer to be recited at specified times of a day. She chose artists/writers who could work with this idea as a metaphoric launch pad. In other words, the hours of a day, like seasons in a year, are qualitative experiences in that at certain times we physically perceive change. That there are "stations” or "phrases" within a day, and virtues appropriate to each hour is an idea that those familiar with metaphor will be able to link into with distinctions.
