Echoes: Return to Forever returns to the stage

Echoes: Return to Forever returns to the stage
This episode of “Echoes” features Return to Forever, the jazz-rock superstar group that broke ground in the jazz world and changed its sound for years to come.

by Kimberly Haas

Listen to the show:

In the 1970s, Chick Corea's Return to Forever was among the Gods of Fusion. Fresh off of gigs with Miles Davis' band, Corea and drummer Lenny White forged a new sound. That sound saw a revision after the band members witnessed a performance by another alumnus of the Miles Davis band: John McLaucghlin in the Mahavishnu Orchestra.

After that performance, the band took a harder edge sound with their compositions and improvisations.

The classic version of that band has gotten back together for a reunion tour. Chick Corea and Stanley Clarke return to the birth of fusion when they talk about Return to Forever then and now on "Echoes."

Hosted by John Diliberto, "Echoes" is a daily two-hour series of evocative, ground-breaking music seamlessly bridging new instrumental, world fusion, new acoustic, impressionistic jazz, and inventive vocal styles.
