Three Notch’d Road: The Charlottesville Baroque Ensemble celebrates the revelry of Twelfth Night with a program of carols and festive baroque works from all over Europe – a great way to wrap up the holiday season.
This family-friendly instrumental program explores both sacred and secular celebrations of the holiday season. Audiences will hear familiar tunes such as Greensleeves and In dulci jubilo, as well as the famous Pastorale from Corelli’s Christmas Concerto.
Lively dances by Praetorius and Playford will help set the festive tone. A “Noel Symphony” by Corrette explores French carols while Biber’s “Nativity” Sonata evokes the mystery of the season.
Three Notch’d Road is also pleased to present an unusual work by Giovanni Antonio Guido, an Italian violinist active at the French court. This concerto, titled “Winter”, is a clear homage to his contemporary Antonio Vivaldi, complete with an evocative poem, the sounds of crunching ice, and virtuosic writing for the violins
