This concert featuring electronic and acoustic music by JMU and guest composers includes several works by Christopher Cook and one work by Robert Paterson. Cook is the director of music theory and composition at Christopher Newport University. Paterson is co-founder, artistic director and conductor of American Modern Ensemble.
Robert Paterson has been cited by the press as “one of the major contenders in American music” and for writing “exuberant and rhythmically vital music marked by energy and a wonderful sense of color.” His music has been commissioned and performed by orchestras, chamber ensembles and choirs around the world. In 2011, Paterson won the Classical Recording Foundation’s Composer of the Year Award.
Christopher Cook’s compositions have been described as “a beautiful landscape of sound,” (Computer Music Journal) and are widely performed in university and festival settings across the globe; his Electro-acoustic works have been presented at national and international conferences and festivals.
