Narnia is number one at box office
(2005-12-13)
(KPBS) -

Disney's latest release, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, was the top grossing film at the box office this past weekend. Based on the classic book by C.S. Lewis, it tells the story of four English children who open a wardrobe to find a magical world of talking animals and evil witches. The film's release has stirred controversy about Lewis and the many interpretations of his writing. The books are often seen as Christian allegories and Disney is hoping to capture the same demographic that garnered The Passion of the Christ unprecedented box office returns. KPBS Film Critic Beth Accomando joins us to give her review of the film and we'll with SDSU Lecturer Antone Minard about Lewis' writing.

Guests:

  • Beth Accomando is the KPBS film critic.
  • Antone Minard is a lecturer in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at San Diego State University.
