NHTSA Launches Investigation Of Ford Heavy Trucks
(2003-10-06)
2003 Ford Expedition Ford Motor Company
(wdetfm) -

Federal safety officials have launched an investigation into some 2002 and 2003 Ford trucks...for a possible accelerator defect. Detroit Public Radio's Jerome Vaughn has more.

The investigation includes 101-thousand Ford F-Series Super Duty pickup trucks and Expedition SUV's with diesel engines and adjustable foot pedals.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it has received six reports of power loss in the vehicles...including one crash. The agency says a sensor located in the accelerator may not work properly with adjustable pedals. That sensor is supposed to measure how far the accelerator pedal is pressed down...to control the amount of fuel that flows to the engine. The problem could cause the engine to idle...or slow down.

NHTSA is requesting information from Ford about owner complaints...and warranty repairs for the problem. The agency could upgrade the probe to an engineering analysis...if there is enough data to suggest a defect. © Copyright 2012, wdetfm
