Flint's Fireworks Fizzle
The ongoing economic meltdown already has taken a heavy toll on Flint.
Now it's claimed the city's annual fireworks show.
Without the city or Genesee County chipping in to cover the cost, the Greater Flint Arts Council has been forced to cancel the show.
WJRT-TV says the announcement was made on Tuesday.
The Flint Journal reports it's the first time the city won't have a fireworks show since former Mayor Woodrow Stanley brought the summer festival back in 1992.
City spokesman Bob Campbell says the city doesn't have the funds to cover the fireworks or the required overtime for public safety officers.
The arts council says it's trying to come up with ways to bring the show back next year.
