Obama advisor says gap between rich and poor must be narrowed

KALAMAZOO, MI (wmuk) - An economic advisor to Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama says the next president needs to realize that trickle down economics don't work.Jared Bernstein, who works for the Economic Policy Institute, says the United States must try to bridge the gap between the rich and the middle and lower classes.

Bernstein says the next president must implement a tax structure similar to that of the Clinton era which taxes the rich more heavily.

Bernstein was in Kalamazoo Tuesday for a book signing and a town hall meeting sponsored by congressional candidate Don Cooney. Cooney is challenging Republican Congressman Fred Upton in November. © Copyright 2012, wmuk
