Lansing Schools Looking At Radical Change
Lansing is considering a complete redesign of its public high schools.
The schools are struggling to bring test scores up.
For the past five years, Lansing's high schools have failed to meet the federal 'No Child Left Behind' academic standards.
Superintendent T.C. Wallace says the district must restructure its high schools to meet the federal standard.
"We know that much attention has to be given to struggling students. Both in the area of prevention and intervention once we have discovered that youngsters are struggling," says Wallace.
The plan calls for a greater focus on preparing 9th graders for high school. Teachers would also have to reapply for their jobs under the plan. That's not sitting well with the teacher's union.
