Women’s Words
A song recital exploring the words of women writers from varying eras and areas: Marianne von Willemer, a 19th-century German muse of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe whose poems were originally attributed to Goethe himself; 20th-century French poet and novelist Louise de Vilmorin; iconic 19th-century American poet Emily Dickinson; lovestruck Victorian English poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning; little-known Russian poet Glafira Galina; and young Jewish teenager Anne Frank, whose diary entries capture the feelings of a young woman approaching adulthood. The recital features music by Schubert, Poulenc, Rachmaninoff, and the American composers Dello Joio, Hoiby, José Bowen and Libby Larsen.
