Democrats Target 2nd District with Big Names, Dollars
(2004-10-14)
(wnpr) - The closest political race in Connecticut this year is by all accounts in the 2nd congressional district, for the seat now held by Republican Rob Simmons. His Democratic challenger is Jim Sullivan, who trails Simmons by only 4 percentage points in a recent UCONN poll.

The 2nd district is Connecticut s largest, geographically, covering the entire eastern part of the state. Independent voters there outnumber registered Democrats and Republicans.

Simmons is one of 13 incumbent G-O-P house members that the national Democratic Party has targeted for defeat. And that means visits by big-name political figures and lots of national party money on both sides, pouring into the race.
