MUSKOGEE, OK
(KOSU) -
Second District Democrats will choosebetween youth and experience when they head to the polls for theparty's primary runoff September 19th. The veteran in the race is state Representative Bill Settle. Settle is a five-term House member. He also has been a Muskogeecity councilman and Muskogee County Democratic chairman. The newcomer is Brad Carson, a Claremore attorney. Carsonfinished ahead of Settle in the August primary. The two landed in a runoff when a third Democratic candidate,Jim Bob Wilson of Tahlequah, got 16 percent of the vote. The Second District is considered the best hope for Democrats tobreak the Republican hold on Oklahoma's congressional offices. The winner will meet Andy Ewing. Ewing is a long-time Muskogeecar dealer who gathered 60 percent of the vote to win aseven-candidate Republican primary without a runoff.(Copyright 2000 by The Associated Press.
