Shutting Down the Dealerships
(2009-06-02)
(WEKU) - Top executives from General Motors and Chrysler will appear before a senate committee today to address concerns about closing hundreds of dealerships. Chrysler plans to close about a quarter of its 3200 US dealerships this month and GM plans to drop about 20 percent of its 6000 dealers by late next year.

Owensboro dealer Don Moore says right now GM has a lot of duplication on its car lots. He said there are simply too many GM dealers and too few sales.

GM filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday and Chrysler is hoping to emerge from bankruptcy as soon as this week.

GM's 6200 dealers compares to just 1600 Toyota dealers in the US.
