Committee Cancels Concealed Carry Vote
(2009-05-12)
(KBIA) - No one testified against the bill, but Missouri S & T doctorate student Isaiah Kellogg said the concealed carry law is a preventive measure.

"There are some international students who have been attacked late at night at the university and this would allow them to protect themselves. It's not just worrying about something happening on campus but it's going to and from campus, too."

Bill sponsor Republican Kenny Jones agreed, but said the bill has a very small chance of passing now due to the delayed vote. Republican Senator Bill Stouffer said in late April that he doubted the Senate would pass the bill. Utah is the only state to pass a concealed carry measure for college campuses and Kellogg said the law works great for the state. © Copyright 2009, KBIA
