Improving Historic Lafayette Homes
(2008-03-18)
LAFAYETTE, IN
(wbaa) -
The city of Lafayette continues to develop ways to improve the look of the downtown area. The newly formed Neighborhood Action Committee is helping some property owners fix up deteriorating homes.
Community Development Project Manager Eileen Booth says the group has identified five homes eligible for federal Block Grant money.
Booth says the properties on the list are important to the historic fabric of the city.
The Board of Works has approved a $20,000 grant to help the owners of a home in the 100 block of South 9th Street to bring the property up to code.
Booth says the Neighborhood Action Committee will monitor the work to make sure it is complying with the Secretary of the Interior's standards for historic preservation. © Copyright 2012, wbaa
