Belgian Govt., Banks to Pay Holocaust Victims
(2008-03-11)
(Associated Press) -

The Belgian government and banks have agreed to pay $170 million to Holocaust survivors, families of victims and the Jewish community for losses during World War II.

Campaigners on Tuesday welcomed the decision to compensate those whose property and goods in Belgium had been looted by Nazi occupiers.

Overall, $54 million will be paid to claimants and the rest will go to a trust to help the needy and ensure that the horrors of the Holocaust are remembered.
