Leaders Meet to Discuss Biodiesel Plant
Randolph and its surrounding counties produced 29 million bushels of soybeans last year. A new 15-million dollar plant is in the works for Moberly, and looks to turn some of those soybeans into B10 biodiesel.
The biodiesel would be used fuel the nationwide mandate by the Federal Energy Bill of 2002 to have all city diesel equipment using B10 by 2010.
Greg Walker, a spokesman for Producers' Choice Soy Energy, says the uses for B10 go beyond city vehicles.
"It's renewable fuels being put into the mainstream energy strategy. We're going to be creating biodiesel which can be used to fuel off road construction equipment, city owned diesel powered equipment, 18 wheelers, farm equipment and so forth."
The new plant is focusing on the local area, buying exclusively from Missouri farmers and can only be invested by Missouri residents or business owners.
The plant is expected to produce five million gallons of biodiesel a year once completed in early 2009.
