TERM LIMITS USA (wgvu) - LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The latest proposal to alter the length of
time state lawmakers can serve in Lansing was introduced today in
the state Legislature.
Brian Calley, a Republican member of the state House from
Portland, wants to extend term limits to 12 years for House and
Senate members first elected in 2008 and beyond.
Current and former lawmakers still would be subject to the
state's existing term limits of six years in the House and eight
years in the Senate.
The proposal also could give the governor, attorney general and
secretary of state more time in office, starting with newly elected
officeholders in 2008.
The measure would change the state's constitution. Voters would
get the final say in a statewide election if the Legislature
approves the initiative.
