Gambling Foes Ready for Next Round in Casino Fight
(2011-12-15)
(wkms) - Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear's inaugural day push for a constitutional amendment to allow more kinds of gambling in Kentucky has run into immediate opposition from conservative pastors who are promising a fight. The Reverend Jeff Fugate, a nationally known evangelist and pastor of Lexington's Clays Mill Road Baptist Church, says gambling would bring only brokenness to Kentucky families and shouldn't even be considered by lawmakers. Kentucky has a long history of betting on horse races but has tight restrictions on casino-style gambling. Beshear's proposal calls for the legislature to approve a proposed constitutional amendment that would then be placed on the ballot for Kentucky voters to decide whether to ratify or reject it. © Copyright 2014, wkms
