Conversation with poet, scholar Evie Shockley (extended version)
(wkms) - This Thursday, poet and literary scholar Evie Shockley brings her sizzling voice to Murray State University. Shockley is the author of two books of poetry: the new black (Wesleyan University Press, forthcoming 2011) and a half-red sea (Carolina Wren Press, 2006), and two chapbooks: 31 words * prose poems (2007) and The Gorgon Goddess (2001). Her poems have appeared in dozens of journals and anthologies. She currently co-edits jubilat, and teaches African American literature and creative writing (poetry) at Rutgers University. Shockley joined our correspondent Jacque Day for a discussion about what drives her work.
