Board Members Question Window Choices
(2010-05-25)
(wkms) - Several Paducah school board members are questioning why bids to renovate Paducah Tilghman High School are higher than estimates predicted. The board voted yesterday to find out how much could be saved by opting for ready-made windows instead of installing the planned and more expensive aluminum custom windows. The lowest bid came in at $4.1 million, about $400,000 over estimates. Board member Bill Black Jr. has pushed hard for the custom windows so they would look exactly like those being replaced. Architect Craig Thomas says the custom windows are coming at a premium cost because only one window manufacturer submitted a price. The Paducah Sun reports the window debate has already delayed the project by at least two months. © Copyright 2013, wkms
