Corps Explains Actions During Flooding
(2010-05-20)
(wkms) - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has released a statement explaining the action taken during Tennessee and Kentucky flooding earlier this month. The statement comes after Tennessee lawmakers requested the U. S. Congress investigate the Corps' practices. The Corps calls the amount of rainfall "unprecedented." Officials say water overwhelmed dam capacity along the Cumberland River. Nashville District Commander Lieutenant Colonel Anthony Mitchell says the dams did their job and held back much of the rain water. The Corps also says it took proactive steps to lower reservoir levels before the rain hit. Officials are reviewing the actions taken during the flood to make improvements in future situations. The review results will be made public. There is no word from Congress whether or not they will investigate the Corps' practices. © Copyright 2013, wkms
