National Weather Service officials confirm an EF 1 tornado touched down Sunday night in Hazel. The twister occurred around 11 p.m. with peak winds of 95 miles per hour, and a path 100 yards wide and 5 and a half miles long. Reports show hundreds of trees uprooted or snapped as well as damage to one house and numerous garages and barns. Damage is estimated at $50,000. Officials say no one was injured or killed.
