Cadiz Considers City Status
(2009-11-04)
(wkms) - Cadiz officials are asking the state to consider making their town a fourth class city. Last night, the Cadiz City Council unanimously approved a resolution to apply for the status. Mayor Lyn Bailey tells the Kentucky New Era the change will open new opportunities, including more power to regulate alcohol sales. The hitch in the upgrade is fourth class cities must have a population of 3-thousand. The last census reported a lower number and Bailey feels those statistics are inaccurate. He believes the 2010 census will validate his claim and he doesn't want to wait to change the classification. Legislators will consider the city's request during the 2010 session in January. If the legislature approves the move Governor Beshear will make the final decision. © Copyright 2012, wkms
