A Benton man who complained that he was arrested for his political views has been convicted of disorderly conduct. A Trigg County jury found 79-year-old Clarence J. Latham guilty last week and recommended the minimum punishment for the misdemeanor - a $250 fine.Latham tried to participate in the Trigg County Country Ham Festival Parade last year with a float featuring signs that promoted Democratic candidates and what Cadiz Police Chief Hollis Alexander has termed offensive language.
Latham testified during the trial that he was detained for political reasons, but police testified that he got loud and out of control when asked to leave. © Copyright 2012, wkms
