Pirate radio
Pirate radio is a name given to stations that broadcast without a license. And last week the FCC shut down what might have been San Diego's best known pirate station. About a dozen federal agents executed a search warrant at the Golden Hill studios of FRSD. That stands for Free Radio San Diego. The station had been broadcasting illegally at 96.9 FM. Pirate radio is part of the broadcast spectrum in just about every large city, much to dismay of the FCC and licensed broadcasters.
Guests:
- "Bob Ugly," program director and DJ at Free Radio San Diego
- Dennis Wharton, Senior VP of Corporate Communications for the National Association of Broadcasters
