Coast Guard Rules Out Alcohol in Barge Crash
(2010-02-23)
PADUCAH, KY
(wkms) -
US Coast Guard officials say they've ruled out alcohol in a crash on the Ohio River yesterday. A tow vessel hauling 27 barges hit the bridge between Wickliffe and Cairo, Illinois. Two barges, one partially filled with coal, sunk. Coast Guard Lieutenant Duane Lemmon says officials are clearing out the coal. Barge owner Ingram will have to clear out the sunken vessels, but a recovery plan has not been approved. Lemmon says the Coast Guard continues to caution boats traveling that part of the river.
